Rival political parties clashed over the ruling side's push to establish a tribunal related to martial law ahead of the one-year anniversary of former President Yoon Suk Yeol's Dec. 3 declaration.

At a Supreme Council meeting on Monday, ruling Democratic Party(DP) leader Jung Chung-rae pledged to establish the tribunal to address the alleged insurrection, stressing that doing so was a necessity rather than a choice because the judiciary is stalling the trial.

Jung called for the passage of a law before the year's end to create the court.

Main opposition People Power Party(PPP) leader Jang Dong-hyeok, on the other hand, accused the DP of attempting to continue its lies and political maneuvering by appointing judges to the insurrection court who are in its favor.

Jang also criticized the DP chief for intimidating the judiciary ahead of the detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday for former PPP floor leader Choo Kyung-ho, who is accused of aiding the martial law declaration.
