Foreign exchange authorities have begun discussing extending their currency swap deal with the National Pension Service.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance(MOEF) said in a press release on Monday that six government agencies met Sunday to discuss extending the swap, which expires at the end of the year.

Participants included MOEF; the Ministry of Health and Welfare; the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; the Financial Services Commission; the Financial Supervisory Service(FSS); and the Bank of Korea.

According to MOEF, the agencies reviewed structural conditions in the foreign exchange market and agreed to take measures to stabilize the forex supply.

The six organizations plan to regularly monitor currency conversion and the overseas investment activities of exporters while exploring ways to align corporate support policies with forex stability measures.

The FSS will also conduct a two‑month review of financial firms, including securities companies, through January to assess whether investor explanations and protection measures for overseas investments are adequate.
