President Lee Jae Myung will deliver an address and hold a press conference on Wednesday to mark the first anniversary of former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law.

Lee Kyu-yeon, the presidential secretary for communication and public relations, said during a briefing at the presidential office on Monday that the day had been a meaningful occasion in which citizens and journalists had defended sovereignty amid crisis.

The speech, scheduled for Wednesday morning, will highlight the people’s ability to turn a moment of extreme chaos into peace.

Following the address, the president will hold a press conference with the theme of “A Renewed Democracy: One Year On.”

Lee Kyu-yeon said about 80 foreign journalists are expected to attend, and the event will also be open to the domestic press pool.

Lee Jae Myung also plans to host a luncheon the same day with the five heads of the three branches of government to reflect on the meaning of martial law and discuss future tasks.
