Former National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director Cho Tae-yong was indicted on charges of dereliction of duty and violating the NIS Act in the martial law declaration case.

The team led by special counsel Cho Eun-suk said Friday that Cho Tae-yong had been charged for his actions on Dec. 3.

Cho Tae-yong stands accused of failing to report the martial law plan to the National Assembly despite being aware of it before former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s televised address to the nation.

Prosecutors say the former director also violated his duty of political neutrality by providing CCTV footage of former NIS Deputy Director Hong Jang-won during the martial law period only to the then-ruling People Power Party, while withholding footage of himself from the Democratic Party.

Cho is currently in detention, which the prosecution secured earlier this month.
