The National Assembly has passed a motion to arrest former People Power Party(PPP) floor leader Choo Kyung-ho on suspicion of blocking a vote to terminate martial law on December 3.

The motion passed with 172 in favor, four against, two abstentions and two invalid out of 180 votes cast.

PPP lawmakers walked out of the chamber in protest of the vote. Choo had waived his immunity to arrest ahead of the proceedings and was absent when ballots were cast.

The special counsel investigating the martial law case requested that Choo be placed in pretrial detention on charges of "participation in an important insurrection mission,” and the justice ministry submitted an arrest motion to the National Assembly on November 5.
