Police will crack down on drunk driving over the next two months in cooperation with major cities and provinces.

The National Police Agency said on Thursday that it intends to raise the alarm about the dangers of drunk driving as the end of the year approaches.

Checkpoints will be set up nationwide to catch drunk drivers every Friday, and each municipal police agency will conduct at least one of its own campaigns per week.

Police data shows that drunk driving caused eight-thousand-107 traffic accidents between January and October, down around eleven percent from the same period last year. Drunk driving deaths also fell 37 percent to 76.

The police attributed both drops to ongoing penalties for obstructing breathalyzer tests.
