A special counsel team says two high-ranking anti-corruption officials failed to inform the government of a criminal complaint against a senior prosecutor.
The team investigating former President Yoon Suk Yeol's alleged interference in a 2023 Marine investigation, led by special counsel Lee Myeong-hyeon said Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) head Oh Dong-woon and deputy chief Lee Jae-seung had been indicted on Wednesday.
According to the indictment, Oh and Lee did not file a legally required report to the Supreme Prosecutors Office after Song Chang-jin, a senior prosecutor at the CIO, was accused of perjury.
Lawmakers of the Democratic Party had accused Song of perjuring himself at the National Assembly in July of last year.
The head of the CIO is legally required to report suspected crimes by CIO prosecutors to the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office.
The special counsel team suspects that Oh and Lee believed the accusation to be politically motivated and intentionally did not report it.
