Unionized Seoul subway workers will strike on December 12, demanding wage hikes and new hires.

The largest labor union representing the Seoul Metro, which operates Seoul Subway Lines 1-8, made the announcement Tuesday during a news conference in front of Seoul City Hall.

The union is demanding that the company halt large-scale layoffs, address unfair wage cuts and ensure worker safety.

Ahead of the full-scale strike, the union plans to launch a work-to-rule protest on December 1.

Meanwhile, the second-largest union plans to monitor management’s stance on wage increases and strengthening safety personnel. The No. 3 union will announce its strike plans at a news conference on Wednesday.
