The government convened an inaugural meeting of science and technology-related ministers on Monday to discuss an integrated national strategy encompassing defense, science, technology and industry for a significant transformation in artificial intelligence(AI).

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok attended the meeting, along with Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon, Education Minister Choi Kyo-jin, Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-back, and Ha Jung-woo, senior presidential secretary for AI and future planning.

The prime minister said AI will accelerate innovation in the domestic economy and serve as an agent for national transformation.

Choi stressed the importance of inter-ministry cooperation to accelerate AI transformation amid a rapidly changing environment.

The participants discussed ten agenda items, including the government's pursuit of ten AI-related projects for public welfare and the application of AI to national defense.
