The number of Seoul households headed by someone in their 30s who did not own a home was the highest on record last year, primarily due to delayed marriages, rising housing prices, supply shortage and tightened lending rules.

According to data from the Ministry of Data and Statistics on Monday, 527-thousand-729 capital-based households headed by someone in their 30s did not own a home in 2024.

The tally rose 17-thousand-215 from the previous year to reach its highest point since the ministry began compiling related data in 2015.

Seoul-based homeowning households led by people in their 30s declined for the third straight year to a record low of 183-thousand-456, resulting in the ownership rate dropping to 25-point-eight percent.

Home ownership among those in their 30s nationwide also fell to a record low of 36 percent, which is still more than ten percentage points higher than Seoul's figure, underscoring the capital city's soaring prices.
