The Japanese animated film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Infinity Castle” stands at No. 1 in South Korean box office sales so far this year.

According to film distributor Animax Broadcasting Korea, “Demon Slayer” has attracted five-point-638 million moviegoers as of Saturday, surpassing the South Korean flick “My Daughter Is a Zombie,” which previously held the top spot with five-point-637 million.

It is the first time that a Japanese movie has been named the highest-grossing film of the year.

The film’s distributor said positive reviews about the drawings and the overwhelming scale of the action have sparked a fever among fans to experience the production in different formats.

The 4DX, IMAX and Dolby Cinema versions of the movie accounted for around 19 percent of total viewership.
