The special prosecution team investigating whether former President Yoon Suk Yeol interfered with a 2023 Marine investigation has indicted Yoon and eleven others.

The indictment comes 142 days after special counsel Lee Myeong-hyeon’s team launched its investigation on July 2.

The team said on Friday that Yoon had been charged with abuse of authority, obstruction of others’ rights, and destruction of official documents.

Prosecutors allege that Yoon exerted undue influence to alter the initial findings of a Marine Corps investigation into the death of Corporal Chae Su-geun in July 2023.

Eleven others, including former National Intelligence Service chief Cho Tae-yong and former Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup, were also indicted and referred to trial in connection with the case.
