The National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee has passed a bill encouraging doctors to work exclusively in rural areas.

The bill, passed Thursday, would require each medical school to select a certain percentage of its quota through a "doctors for rural areas" program.

Those who enter medical school through this program will be obligated to work at medical institutions in rural areas for ten years.

The same day, the committee passed a revised bill officially introducing telemedicine to the current health care system.

Such services are currently being provided on a trial basis.
