President Lee Jae Myung met Korean troops deployed with the Akh unit in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, praising their work and calling them “military and security diplomats” representing South Korea abroad.

Speaking at a gathering with about 50 service members, Lee thanked the troops for serving far from home in response to the nation's call, noting that Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, had expressed strong appreciation for the unit during their meeting.

Lee said the Akh unit plays a key role in maintaining peace in the Middle East, enhancing South Korea’s international stature and safeguarding the lives and security of its people.

He told the troops he was grateful for their steadfast performance and expressed complete confidence they would continue to carry out their mission with professionalism.

Lee attended the event with first lady Kim Hea Kyung, and both wore the unit’s sand-colored uniform tops in a gesture of solidarity with the deployed personnel.
