Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said that the recent formation of a government task force to investigate public officials' involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of martial law was an "inevitable" step towards restoring constitutional order and promoting unity within the civil service.
Presiding over a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Kim said investigations will be limited to the strictly necessary scope in accordance with the Constitution and due process, neither excessive nor insufficient.
The prime minister added that the task force will uphold the executive branch's reforms with both focus and restraint to resolve its internal strife and prioritize people's livelihoods, in line with the public's wishes.
The government recently formed a special task force to investigate whether certain public officials participated in illegal activities surrounding the December 3 martial law declaration.
The inquiry, proposed by the prime minister, will cover 49 ministries and agencies, excluding presidential and independent bodies.
Kim’s remarks signal an attempt to address recent political debates over the task force's work and a potential restructuring of the civil service.
