South Korea and South Africa have signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) to solidify their ties in the defense industry.

The agreement was signed on Monday at South Africa’s defense acquisition and procurement office in Pretoria by CEO Solomzi Mbada and South Korean Ambassador to South Africa Yang Dong-han on behalf of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

The embassy said the MOU will pave the way for a regular joint defense committee, through which both nations will review ongoing matters, share experiences in research and development and promote future collaboration in the sphere.

An embassy spokesperson said that the two nations' defense firms and research institutes have long cooperated on the research, development and testing of weapon systems, and expressed hope that the MOU will boost South Korea's defense exports to the African country.
