President Lee Jae Myung has accepted the resignation of acting Prosecutor General Noh Man-seok, amid rising internal backlash over the prosecution’s decision not to appeal a ruling in the high-profile Daejang-dong corruption case.

Presidential spokesperson Kim Nam-joon told reporters at a briefing on Friday that Lee had approved Noh's dismissal two days after the acting prosecutor general offered to resign.

Noh offered to step down after prosecutors decided not to appeal in the corruption case involving a real estate development project in Seongnam, just south of Seoul, which occurred when Lee was the city's mayor.

Noh’s resignation comes about four months after he assumed the acting role in July following the voluntary resignation of then-Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung.
