North Korea may be preparing to hold another military parade in time for the ninth congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, which is expected to take place early next year.

NK News, a U.S.-based media outlet specializing in North Korea, reported on Wednesday that troop transport trucks had begun to appear at the Mirim airfield, a military parade training base in southeastern Pyongyang, between November 4 and 5, based on Planet Labs satellite imagery.

The outlet reported that the latest image, taken on November 11, depicted hundreds of trucks.

North Korea gathers troops and vehicles at Mirim every time it prepares for a military parade.

Ahead of the 80th anniversary of the founding of North Korea’s ruling party in October, trucks and troops began appearing at the airfield in June and practiced for more than three months before a large-scale military parade took place on October 10.

According to NK News, the ninth congress is likely the next occasion for a parade. The publication noted that North Korea's military parade marking the 75th anniversary of its ruling party's founding, in October 2020, was followed by another parade marking the eighth party congress in January 2021.

South Korea’s spy agency also reported to parliament earlier this month that it had detected signs of North Korea preparing to hold a military parade early next year for the ninth party congress, which could be held in February.
