The special counsel team investigating the December 3 martial law case is seeking the pretrial detention of former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn.

The team, led by special counsel Cho Eun-suk, said on Wednesday that it had requested Hwang's detention around 6:50 p.m. on charges of inciting insurrection.

Hwang called for the elimination of pro-North Korea forces and those involved in election fraud, whom he said had destroyed the country, on Facebook on December 3 of last year, the day former President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law,

In another post, Hwang called for the arrest of National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik and then-People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon.

Earlier Wednesday, the special counsel team arrested Hwang at his residence in Seoul and questioned him at Cho’s office about whether he had advocated or incited insurrection.

Hwang reportedly refused to comment during questioning.
