Wedding agencies, yoga and pilates studios, and other businesses known for vague pricing must notify customers of their fees in advance or face fines starting Wednesday.

According to the Korea Fair Trade Commission(FTC), the measure aligns with a revision to the Fair Labeling and Advertising Act.

Wedding halls, studios, dress and makeup shops, and yoga and pilates studios will be obligated to disclose their rates and refund policies in advance, including on their official business posts, websites and customer registration applications.

Wedding-related businesses must display details and prices of each service, termination penalties and refund standards on their websites or the Korea Consumer Agency's True Price portal, as well as in physical contracts.

The FTC said couples who plan to get married and have signed contracts without all the price information can better predict wedding costs, since they can check rates in advance.

Yoga and pilates operators who subscribe to a consumer compensation plan, such as a guarantee insurance policy, must also disclose their guarantor and coverage amount.

Violations of these measures, including restricting consumers’ access to pricing and policies, will incur a fine of up to 100 million won.

Penalties will also be levied on businesses that advertise or display prices that differ from actual rates.

The FTC set a six-month grace period to allow impacted businesses to prepare and comply with their labeling and advertising obligations.
