Authorities are set to demolish two boiler towers adjacent to the collapsed one at a thermal power plant in the southeastern city of Ulsan.

Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon said on Tuesday morning that the two boiler towers, Units 4 and 6, which posed the most significant risk to rescue operations, are scheduled for demolition at noon.

The minister explained that safety inspections had been conducted in consultation with experts, that nearby institutions within a one-kilometer radius had been notified and that the police had secured the surrounding roads.

Kim added that Ulsan would issue a disaster alert at 11 a.m. and warned residents that the demolition could cause loud explosions and vibrations.

The government plans to reassess site stability after the demolition and accelerate rescue operations.
