The Navy has conducted its first fleet-level maneuver drills involving its latest Aegis-equipped destroyers.

The Navy said Tuesday that the three-day exercise, which began on Sunday in the southern and eastern seas, aimed to strengthen the nation’s military readiness.

The drills mark the first fleet-level exercise involving both the commander and staff of the Naval Task Fleet Command and took place roughly nine months after the unit was established on February 1.

The Navy said the exercise mobilized three Aegis-equipped destroyers, four warships and three aircraft and continued day and night.

Participating vessels conducted simulated anti-ship, anti-submarine and air defense operations, as well as ballistic missile detection and tracking drills.
