Former President Yoon Suk Yeol will appear for questioning Tuesday for an investigation into the death of a Marine corporal during a heavy rain search in 2023.

Yoon’s lawyers announced on Monday that the former president decided to accept summons to appear for questioning.

The special counsel team probing the incident made a similar confirmation, saying that Yoon’s lawyers said that Yoon will appear for questioning at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The former president had previously refused the probe team’s summons on two occasions, citing his lawyers’ busy schedules and his ongoing trials.

Yoon stands accused of interfering with a military investigation into the death of the Marine, who was swept away during a rescue mission under torrential monsoon rains without wearing a life vest or other safety equipment.

Yoon is suspected of issuing orders to have Lim Seong-geun, former commander of the Marine's First Division, removed from a list of suspects included in an initial Marine probe report.
