Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has appeared for questioning over allegations that he had a supporter pay for a series of polls ahead of the 2021 mayoral by-election, conducted by a firm that reportedly belongs to power broker Myung Tae-kyun.

On Saturday morning, the special counsel team investigating former first lady Kim Keon-hee began grilling the Seoul mayor as a suspect accused of violating the Political Funds Act.

Investigators are also expected to interrogate Myung as a witness.

The team suspects that Oh had Myung’s firm conduct 13 unpublished polls during his campaign for the April 7 by-election in 2021.

The mayor is also accused of having one of his supporters, Kim Han-jung, send 33 million won, or around 23-thousand U.S. dollars, to the firm on his behalf to pay for the polls.
