President Lee Jae Myung has extended the ongoing investigation into the December 3 martial law declaration.

The presidential office said Friday that Lee had approved special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s request to extend the ongoing probe, and that the decision would bring closure to the incident and promote national unity.
 
The top office added that the Lee administration remains committed to the Constitution, democracy and the sovereignty of the people.
 
Cho’s special counsel team, formed on June 18, has already received two extensions, the second of which was set to expire next Friday.
 
The latest approval enables the investigation to continue until December 14.
 
Lee’s decision comes two days after the special counsel requested a 30-day extension to uncover the truth behind the martial law incident.
