A special counsel team raided the private residence of former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife as part of an investigation into repairs carried out there.
Special counsel Min Joong-ki’s team, which is investigating first lady Kim Keon-hee, is in the process of conducting searches and seizures at seven locations on Thursday, including Yoon’s apartment at the Acrovista complex in southern Seoul, as well as interior design company 21 Gram and homes of its employees.
Targets also include the office of Covana Contents, Kim’s former company, which is in the basement of the Acrovista complex.
The team is looking into whether 21 Gram, an interior design firm without a construction license, received preferential treatment when it was awarded no-bid contracts for renovation and expansion work in the relocation of the presidential office and residence after Yoon's inauguration.
The special counsel team suspects that the company, which had previously sponsored exhibitions organized by Covana Contents and handled the design and construction of its office, secured the project through personal ties with Kim.
