South Korea and 47 African countries agreed to convene a ministerial meeting in Seoul next June.

The foreign ministry announced on Wednesday that the parties had reached the agreement during the South Korea-Africa Senior Officials’ Meeting at Lotte Hotel Seoul the previous day.

The meeting, during which attendees reviewed cooperation trends since the most recent Korea-Africa Summit and discussed additional cooperation opportunities, was co-chaired by the ministry's deputy director general, Chung Eui-hae and Ambassador-Designate Sianga Kivuila Samuel Abilio of Angola, which holds the chairmanship of the African Union this year.

Chung stressed the need for South Korea and Africa to build substantive and mutually beneficial relations to diversify diplomacy in the fast-changing international environment.

Abilio pledged to help expand cooperation between South Korea and Africa.
