Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday reiterated the importance of Japan–South Korea relations, stressing plans to develop them in a future-oriented and stable manner.
Speaking before the lower house of Japan’s parliament, Takaichi said she and President Lee Jae Myung had agreed during last week’s APEC summit that Tokyo and Seoul—along with Washington—must strengthen coordination.
She acknowledged differences on various issues but vowed to manage them while building upon the foundation of normalized ties, adding that "shuttle diplomacy" and close communication will continue.
Takaichi also said her recent summit with U.S. President Donald Trump had yielded “major progress,” pledging to deepen trust and elevate the Japan–U.S. alliance.
She added that Japan, the largest foreign investor in the U.S., will continue to strengthen supply chains and economic security cooperation.
Takaichi met Trump in Tokyo on October 28 before attending the APEC summit in Gyeongju, where she also met with Lee and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
