A special counsel team investigating former first lady Kim Keon-hee said it will submit a document opposing Kim's request for release from detention.

A team member said in a press briefing on Tuesday that the former first lady's potential to contact witnesses and destroy evidence remains grounds for her continued custody.

On Monday, Kim requested release on bail at the Seoul Central District Court, claiming she requires treatment for aggravated dizziness and anxiety.

A date for the bail hearing has not yet been scheduled.

The former first lady was indicted, while in custody, on charges of stock manipulation at Deutsch Motors, intervening in the People Power Party’s election nominations and accepting bribes from the Unification Church.
