The government has welcomed China’s decision to extend its visa-free entry policy for South Korea and other countries by one year.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Lee Jae-woong revealed the government's stance during a regular press briefing on Tuesday.

Lee said China’s move is expected to promote human exchange between the two countries and improve mutual understanding and “friendly sentiment.”

Earlier on Monday, the Chinese foreign ministry announced that its policy of visa exemption for citizens of 45 nations will remain in place until December 31, 2026, and will expand to include Sweden.

The policy allows citizens of eligible nations to enter China for business, tourism, family visits or transit for up to 30 days without a visa.
