U.S. President Donald Trump says a trade deal with South Korea is “pretty close to being finalized.” 

Trump made the remarks on Friday in a press meeting aboard Air Force One, en route to Malaysia as part of a trip that will also take him to South Korea and Japan. 

According to the White House pool report, Trump said that if South Korea is ready to finalize the deal, so is he. 

The remarks come a day after a senior U.S. official said the United States is keen to nail down a trade deal with South Korea as soon as possible, if Seoul is willing to make the commitments Washington deems appropriate.

Seoul and Washington have struggled to narrow differences over how to implement South Korea’s 350 billion dollar investment pledge under the framework agreement reached in July.
