Cambodian authorities plan to deport 59 South Korean detainees on Friday.

Cambodia’s General Commissariat of National Police said in a statement the same day that it planned to deport 59 South Korean nationals who had been rescued or detained on criminal charges.

The operation will be carried out in cooperation with the South Korean embassy in Phnom Penh.

South Korean authorities stated that Cambodia’s announcement was not coordinated with them, though discussions with local police are ongoing.

The presidential office said earlier this week that 63 South Koreans were detained by Cambodia’s immigration authorities. Four have since been repatriated on commercial planes.

Seoul has said it is arranging additional flights and aims to complete the repatriation process by the weekend.
