The government has set up an interagency task force to respond to a series of crimes targeting South Koreans in Cambodia.

A presidential office spokesperson said on Monday that the task force would hold its inaugural meeting that afternoon, with National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac presiding.

The task force will include representatives from the foreign ministry, justice ministry, National Police Agency and National Intelligence Service and will assess crimes against South Koreans in Cambodia and devise response measures in cooperation with Cambodian authorities.

On Saturday, the presidential office said that President Lee Jae Myung had ordered the foreign ministry to protect South Koreans from crime in Cambodia.

The office added that the ministry has taken various measures, including securing cooperation from the Cambodian government, and would take additional steps if necessary.
