Police on Thursday arrested former Korea Communications Commission(KCC) Chair Lee Jin-sook at her home in Seoul’s Gangnam District.

Lee is accused of violating the election law and civil service act by making politically charged remarks and campaigning against the election of President Lee Jae Myung before the beginning of the official campaign period.

Investigators say some of her comments on YouTube breached political neutrality rules.

Police said Lee was arrested because she ignored repeated summonses after the Democratic Party and civic groups filed multiple complaints.

Lee’s lawyer said she had explained that her absence was due to parliamentary scheduling, but police executed the warrant anyway.

Her tenure at the commission ended on Wednesday after a new government reorganization law abolished the KCC and replaced it with a different media-related entity.
