A presidential committee related to the exchange of pop culture kicked off on Wednesday as part of President Lee Jae Myung’s pledge to make South Korea into a “top five cultural power.”

At a ceremony marking the launch of the committee at the KINTEX exhibition center in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Wednesday, Lee vowed that the government would actively support the growth of South Korean pop culture into a key industry shaping the future of the nation’s economy.

Lee said the government will provide such support based on a “no-interference” principle to ensure that autonomy and creativity are actively explored.

The committee will aim to expand international enjoyment of Korean culture while also broadening access to foreign cultural exchange.

The committee will be co-chaired by Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young and Park Jin-young, producer and head of JYP Entertainment.
