A court will deliberate former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s request to be released on bail later this week.

Legal sources said Tuesday that the Seoul Central District Court will hold a bail hearing for the former president at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

The hearing is expected to take place immediately after Yoon’s first formal trial on charges of obstruction of duties and abuse of authority related to his declaration of martial law last December brought by special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s team.

Yoon’s lawyers requested the former president's release last Friday, citing the need to ensure a proper defense along with health concerns and the alleged unfairness of the charges.

Yoon was freed in March after the court approved his lawyers’ request to release him pending trial, but the former president was taken back into custody in July at the special counsel team’s request.
