South Korea's presidential office has expressed its intention to support talks between North Korea and the United States, following North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's indication that he is open to discussion.

An official from the presidential office issued the statement on Monday after Kim told North Korea's Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) that if the U.S. were to abandon its goal of denuclearizing North Korea, then there would be no reason for the regime to avoid any future discussions with the United States.

In response to Kim’s firm stance against denuclearization, South Korea’s presidential office reaffirmed the government's commitment to a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

The presidential office said that South Korea will adopt a long-term approach focused on easing tension and rebuilding trust, with the goal of resolving inter-Korean hostility and fostering peaceful relations.
