The special counsel team investigating the December 3 martial law declaration has summoned former presidential chief of staff Chung Jin-suk for questioning.

Legal sources said Thursday that the team is questioning Chung at special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s office in southern Seoul.

Chung, a close aide to former President Yoon Suk Yeol, was called to the presidential office just before Yoon declared martial law on December 3.

Although not a Cabinet member, he also attended a brief Cabinet meeting just before the declaration alongside then-National Security Adviser Shin Won-sik.

Chung is also accused of ordering the disposal of records and official documents stored on PCs at the presidential office after martial law was lifted.

Cho’s team plans to question Chung about whether he aided Yoon's martial law declaration and ordered the destruction of related evidence.
