Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will make his first visit to China this week since taking office.

The foreign ministry said on Monday that Cho would visit Beijing on Wednesday and Thursday.

Cho is scheduled to meet his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on Wednesday for the first talks between the two nations' foreign ministers since the launch of the Lee Jae Myung administration.

Seoul’s foreign ministry said that the two sides will discuss a possible visit to South Korea by Chinese President Xi Jinping for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit set for next month in the southeastern city of Gyeongju.

The top diplomats will also discuss ways to deepen the two nations' strategic partnership. 

The talks are also likely to cover North Korean issues and China’s installation of large steel structures in the Yellow Sea.
