President Lee Jae Myung said the government will closely consult with the U.S. to seek institutional improvements in order to prevent a repeat of the mass detainment of South Koreans during an immigration raid in the U.S. state of Georgia last week.

Presiding over a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Lee said he feels a heavy responsibility as the one in charge of the safety of South Korean people, and consoled the workers.

Lee expressed hope that such an incident which infringes upon South Korean people and business activities aimed at the two sides' mutual development is not repeated in the future.

He then called for active efforts toward generating a practical outcome in line with mutual trust and the spirit of the alliance.

The president instructed related ministries to continue to thoroughly manage the situation until all of those detained safely return home.
