Former President Yoon Suk Yeol has skipped the eighth straight hearing in his martial law trial, leading the Seoul Central District Court to proceed in absentia.

The court said Monday that the trial will proceed in Yoon’s absence, saying the ousted former president failed to appear again and that the detention center where he is held submitted a report to that effect.

The Seoul Detention Center earlier submitted a report to the court indicating that forcibly bringing Yoon to the courtroom was impossible.

The court on Monday will hear testimony from Park Tae-joo, head of the information protection unit of the Defense Counterintelligence Command.

Yoon, indicted on charges of leading an insurrection and abuse of power, has repeatedly cited health reasons for missing hearings since being taken back into custody on July 10.
