Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will depart for the United States on Monday to finalize administrative procedures for the release of hundreds of South Koreans detained in the U.S. in a recent immigration raid.

According to a foreign ministry official on Sunday, Cho is set to leave for Washington on Monday afternoon.

Cho is expected to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials to seek their cooperation and discuss administrative procedures for the release of the detained South Koreans.

During a government meeting Saturday, the top diplomat already indicated that he was ready to travel to Washington if necessary to directly engage with the U.S. administration.

The presidential office said earlier on Sunday that negotiations for their release have been concluded, adding that a chartered plane will head for the United States to bring them home once administrative procedures are completed.
