People Power Party chief Jang Dong-hyuk said he plans to raise a cross-party consultative body with President Lee Jae Myung during their one-on-one talks next week.

Speaking at the National Assembly on Friday, Jang stressed that the opposition will not abandon its role of checking the government while seeking ways to cooperate on economic and livelihood issues.

He warned that recent tariff negotiations with the United States had created “tremendous uncertainty” for the Korean economy and vowed to press Lee on whether his administration is prepared.

Jang also accused the ruling Democratic Party of railroading legislation and said the government appeared more focused on suppressing the opposition than addressing the economy.

The presidential office confirmed Lee will meet Jang for at least 30 minutes after a luncheon with ruling and opposition leaders on September 8 to discuss domestic and foreign policy.
