The eastern coastal city of Gangneung has stepped up water supply restrictions as it remains in the throes of a severe drought.

The city government announced that starting Saturday, it will shut off water valves for 113 apartment complexes equipped with storage tanks and instead supply water via trucks.

The measure will affect approximately 45-thousand households, which account for about 49 percent of the 91-thousand-700 households in the service area of the Hongje water treatment plant.

The measure will also be applied to ten large lodging facilities in the city.

The city government also warned that if the water level of the city’s Obong Reservoir falls below ten percent, it will have to cut water from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day.

Should conditions worsen, the city will supply water every other day.
