The number of foreigners owing homes in South Korea increased by more than 20 percent under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, despite the former government's policy of curbing speculative purchases by foreign buyers.

According to data from the Korea Real Estate Board submitted to the office of Democratic Party Rep. Park Yong-kab, the number of foreigners owning homes in the country stood at 99-thousand-839 as of the end of 2024.

The figure marks a 20-point-seven percent increase from 82-thousand-666 two years earlier.

Chinese nationals accounted for the largest shared and biggest increase by nationality, jumping 24-point-six percent over the two-year period to around 60-thousand.

The number of new home purchases by foreigners worth over one-point-two billion won, or roughly 861-thousand U.S. dollars, was recorded at 546 during the cited period.
