One-point-36 million foreign tourists visited Seoul in July, an all-time high for the month.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on Tuesday, the latest July tally is up 23-point-one percent from a year earlier.
The total number of foreign tourists between January and July stood at a record high of eight-point-28 million, showing a 15-point-nine percent increase year-on-year.
The largest number of visitors, 470-thousand, came from China.
Japan was next with 240-thousand, followed by Taiwan with 160-thousand and the United States with 100-thousand.
The city government attributed the higher numbers to the popularity of cultural content such as the animated global hit film “KPop Demon Hunters,” which has drawn the so-called Millennial and Gen-Z fans who now want to see the country firsthand.
The municipality also mentioned Seoul’s reputation for a safe public transportation system, saying this helped attract solo travelers from abroad.
