North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is expected to depart for Beijing on Monday to attend a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Because security has been tightened near the Chinese border city of Dandong, Kim is likely to use his personal train to get to the parade through Dandong as he did in 2019 the last time he visited China.

According to China’s railway reservation system Sunday, no tickets were available for evening trips from Dandong to Beijing on Monday or Tuesday.

The parade is set to take place in Tiananmen Square on Wednesday.

Since the journey from Pyongyang to Beijing usually takes between 20 and 24 hours, Kim is expected to leave Pyongyang on Monday and pass through Dandong late at night.

The North Korean leader has not used his personal jet, the Chammae-1, for long-distance trips in recent years.
