South Korean director Park Chan-wook's upcoming film “No Other Choice” officially premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival amid much fanfare.
Park, along with the cast, including lead actor Lee Byung-hun, attended the premiere at the Sala Grande theater on Friday, local time.
Based on the mystery novel "The Ax" by American writer Donald E. Westlake, “No Other Choice” is a dark thriller about a man named Man-su, played by Lee, who desperately searches for a new job after being fired from a paper company.
The film has been invited to compete in the festival’s official competition section.
The premiere received a standing ovation at both the beginning and end, with applause continuing for nine minutes as the credits rolled.
"No Other Choice" is set to compete against 20 other films, including Yorgos Lanthimos' "Bugonia" and Guillermo Del Toro's "Frankenstein." The winner will be announced at the festival’s closing ceremony on September 6.
