Former President Yoon Suk Yeol has skipped his martial law trial for the sixth straight hearing, leading the Seoul Central District Court to proceed in absentia.

The detention center told the court that forcibly escorting Yoon was “impossible or extremely difficult,” prompting judges to continue on Thursday under Article 277-2 of the Criminal Procedure Act.

Yoon, indicted on charges of leading an insurrection and abuse of power, has repeatedly cited health reasons for missing hearings since being re-detained on July 10.

At Thursday’s session, the court heard testimony from senior military officers deployed to the National Assembly during the December 3 martial law attempt.

While earlier hearings allowed for deferred confirmation by the defendant, since August 11 the court has shifted to a full trial in absentia, a move that could limit Yoon’s ability to contest evidence.
