U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says the Trump administration will create a national and economic security fund with the investments from South Korea, Japan and other countries.
Lutnick made the remarks Tuesday in an interview with CNBC, saying those countries will provide the U.S. with money to build infrastructure in America and that his country is not starting a sovereign wealth fund.
The commerce secretary said those are the deals that U.S. President Donald Trump made using his tariffs, not using the money from the tariffs but using the commitment of the other countries.
Lutnick said those countries fundamentally understand that a strong and powerful America is necessary for the world to be successful.
Late last month, South Korea presented a 350 billion dollar investment package to the United States to conclude the tariff negotiations.
But the two sides have yet to narrow their differences on how the investment will be implemented.
